 Pirates Pick Up Two More Conference Wins

Independence, KS-   The Independence Pirates improved to 21-3 and 12-0 in league play with two conference victories this past week.  ICC really shared the basketball over the week and it was evident with six players scoring in double figures in a 95-69 victory over the Labette Cardinals and seven players scoring in double-digits with a 98-66 win this past Saturday over the Ft. Scott Greyhounds.

Independence jumped out to a twenty point half-time lead against Labette and never looked back.  ICC pushed their lead to as many as 35 in the second half and would roll to a 96-69 win. 

Antonio Hanson led the way with 20 points and 5 assists.  James Bush added 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.  Rounding out the scoring was Micheal Craion, Donald Rowe, Daniel Rowe, and Chris Heard each with 10 points.  Heard also added 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Against Ft. Scott, ICC jumped out to a 53-31 half-time lead over the Greyhounds.  It was much the same in the second half, as ICC led by as many as 38 points.  Seven players scored in double figures for ICC.

Antonio Hanson paced ICC with 18 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals.  Daniel Rowe and Mekan Moss added 13 points.  James Bush added 12, Michael Craion scored 11 points, and TJ Stukes and Chris Tyler both pitched in 10 apiece.  Bush led the team with 9 rebounds followed by Mekan Moss with 7.  Chris Heard led the team with 6 assists.

ICC will begin a four-game road trip that is pivotal in their pursuit of a conference championship.  ICC travels to Kansas City, KS on Wednesday to face the KCK Blue Devils at 7 pm.  ICC will then travel to Montgomery County rival Coffeyville on Saturday at 7 pm.
