Win Streak Pushed to 7 Games
Coffeyville,
KS-
The Independence Pirates saw their win streak move to seven consecutive games
with two victories at the KJCCC Jayhawk Shootout. ICC moves to 8-3 on the
year after victories over Northeastern Oklahoma A & M and Cloud County Community
College.
In the first contest
for ICC, the Pirates were out to avenge an earlier defeat handed to them by the
NEO Norsemen. NEO entered the contest 8-2 and had previously beaten the
Pirates 69-49 at the West Plains Classic.
ICC jumped out to a
quick 7-0 lead and never let NEO get into any rhythm. The Pirates extended
its lead to 16-6 for their first double digit lead. The Pirates went into
halftime with a 39-24 advantage. ICC came back after half and led by as
many as 23 points and cruised to a 84-69 victory.
Antonio Hanson led
the Pirates in scoring with 23 points. Hanson also dished out 6 assists
and connected on 4 three point baskets. TJ Stukes added 13 points and a
team-high 6 rebounds. Donald Rowe added 11 points and 3 three point
baskets. Mekan Moss rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.
In the second
contest of the Jayhawk Shootout, the Pirates would face Jayhawk West opponent
Cloud County Community College. James Bush jump started the Pirates with
ICC's first 6 points. Cloud kept things even in the early going and held a
slight 14-13 lead. ICC would then go on a 20-11 run behind a few Antonio
Hanson three point baskets to give them a 33-21 advantage. Cloud would not
go away, and cut the lead to 8 going into half-time with ICC leading 38-30.
The Pirates
struggled to score early in the second half, but behind some stingy defense, ICC
would not let Cloud get any closer than 4 points. ICC won the contest
68-60 over the Thunderbirds.
Antonio Hanson led
the way with 17 points. Daniel Rowe followed with 17 and Mekan Moss added
10 points. James Bush was relentless on the glass and chiiped in 14
rebounds. TJ Stukes added 9 rebounds in the win.
ICC (8-3) will face
Seminole State College (7-1) on Thursday, December 6th at 7 pm to try and avenge
an earlier loss to them on the road.
