Pirates Start Season in Fine Fashion
The Independence Community
College men’s basketball team opened up the season in fine form with a 107-33
victory over the Ottawa University Junior Varsity.
Daniel Rowe started things off
with a dunk to set the tone for the Pirates and they never looked back.
Independence took a commanding 46-11 lead into half-time and held the Braves to
only 2/30 shooting in the initial half.
"I'm not a big fan of playing
J.V. teams, but for this year and with everyone being new to each other, it was
a good game to get our feet wet," said head ICC men's basketball coach Tommy
DeSalme. "I thought we played with a great deal of energy and effort."
Three players scored in double
figures with Antonio Hanson leading the way with 28 points. Hanson also
connected on 6/11 three point shots. Sophomores TJ Stukes and Chris Tyler
both added 12 points, respectively. Freshman Daniel Rowe from Kansas City, KS
led the team with 7 assists and 4 steals. Sophomore Chris Heard led the Pirates
with 8 rebounds.
