 Pirates Defeat Neosho 96-80

Chanute, KS-   The Independence Pirates hit the road for the first time in two weeks.  The Pirates traveled to Chanute, KS to face the third-place Neosho County Panthers.  With a good crowd following the Pirates to the game, the game sure did feel as if they were at home.

ICC jumped out to an 11-5 lead after a TJ Stukes basket off of a pass from Antonio Hanson.  ICC extended its lead to 11 points after an Antonio Hanson three point basket to make the score 24-13 with 10:01 to go in the half.  Neosho County chipped into the lead to make it a seven point game at 24-17.  That would be as close as they would get in the first half, as ICC led by as many as 15 points in the first half, and took a 44-30 advantage into the intermission.

ICC pushed its lead to 17 points with a 78-61 advantage with 8:28 to go.  Neosho County did not give up though.  They tried to rally and cut the ICC lead to 7 points at 81-74 with 5:11 to play in the contest.  ICC stretched its lead back to 12 points with a 86-74 advantage with 1:29 left to play.  After a wild sequence of events involving an intentional and technical foul on the Panthers during a free throw shot, ICC stretched its lead to 19 points after a series of free-throws and a Michael Craion three point basket.  ICC would finish the contest with a 96-80 victory.

Five Pirates scored in double figures for ICC. Antonio Hanson led the way with 30 points.  Michael Craion followed with 17 points, Daniel Rowe added 14, Donald Rowe added 13 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, and TJ Stukes had 11 points.  Hanson led the Pirates with 5 assists and 3 steals.

ICC improves to 17-3 (8-0) with the win.  It also marked ICC's 16th consecutive win.  The Pirates travel to Iola, KS on Wednesday, January 30th to face the Allen County Red Devils at 7:30 pm.
