Lady Pirate Basketball
ICC Drops Conference Game
The Independence women's basketball team got their first taste of life on the
road in the Jayhawk Conference Wednesday night in Parsons, KS vs the Labette
Lady Cardinals....it did not go well for the Lady Pirates. The first half was
hotly contested as both teams battled each other without backing down. That all
changed in the final 1:30 of the first half. The Lady Cardinals extended what
was a four point lead to an eleven point margin at the half. The second half was
only an extension of the first as Labette pulled away for a 74-56 victory. "We
just dug ourselves to big of a hole." said Head Coach Tony Turner. "In that
second half we would cut the lead to about 10 three or four times but each time
they would make another run to put it back to 16 or 17. That's a good team over
there and they played extremely well."
Freshman Rhea Codio led the scoring for the
Lady Pirates with 12 points.
The Lady Pirates return to action Saturday, January 12 at 2pm in Fort Scott, KS
as they take on the Lady Greyhounds of Fort Scott Community College.
