Lady Pirates Put on Offensive
Clinic
The Independence women's basketball team fell six points short of breaking the
school record for most points scored in a single game. That was the only feat
the Lady Pirates came up short on Friday night in Dodge City, KS as they blasted
Lamar Community College 122-75 in the Lady Conq Classic. "Offensively we were
clicking about as well as you can as a team, however we aren't even close to
where we need to be defensively." said Lady Pirate Head Coach Tony Turner.
Freshman Becca Holman led a fairly balanced attack of six double figure scorers.
The Burlington, KS native led the charge with 29 points including 4 bombs from
beyond the arc. "I thought we all played pretty well offensively." said Holman.
"We played unselfish basketball and were hitting open shots. I felt I could have
played better defensively though".
Wichita native Robertson Olanya
bested her career high in points for the second consecutive game as she chipped
in 17 points including 4 treys.
The most negative aspect to the
game was sophomore Therese Hager suffered a broken nose and will be out of
action for the next several games.
ICC will play Dodge City
Community College Saturday, November 17 at 6pm in the final game of the Lady
Conq Classic.
