Lady Pirates Trip up #12 Seward County

The Independence women's basketball team represented the Eastern Division in fine fashion Saturday at the Jayhawk Shootout. ICC held on to beat the Lady Saints of Seward County 54-53. A buzzer beater by Seward's Teegan Cunningham proved to be not enough to send the game into overtime as the shot came from inside the 3-point arc. "We thought about fouling her since we were up 3, but we rolled the dice and decided to rely on our defense to get a stop." said Head Coach Tony Turner. "This is a good win for us. Seward was preseason #1 in the country and #12 right now so we feel pretty good about this win. That being said...we have a quick turnaround with NEO tomorrow night."

Freshman Rhea Codio led the Lady Pirate charge with 14 points and 8 assists.

Indy will play the final game of the Jayhawk Shootout Sunday, December 2 at 7pm in Coffeyville, KS against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
