Lady Pirate Basketball

Lady Pirates Tip Off Season

The Independence Community College women’s basketball team took care of business Thursday night in front of a nice-sized opening night crowd. The opening five minutes of the game looked exactly how the first five minutes of the season could be expected to look....sluggish. However, once the opening night jitters were in the rear view mirror so were the Lady Builders of Southwestern College as the Lady Pirates cruised to a 90-54 victory.

"I thought we came out and played pretty hard," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Tony Turner. "It was one of those games where the effort and intensity was there, but we come away with some things we can still work on execution-wise. We'll know more about our team at the end of next week."

The Lady Pirates were led by the return of Sophomore Ashley Gladden's 18 points. The Catonsville, Maryland native showed no ill-effects of an Achilles injury that kept her out of action all of last season.

ICC returns to action Tuesday, November 6 at 7pm in the Fieldhouse as they battle Eastern Oklahoma State College.
