Independence Community College is seeking applications for the position of  full-time Adult Basic Education InstructorIndependence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serving the needs of full and part-time students, has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process.

Position Summary

The college is seeking a team-oriented professional for the position of Adult Basic Education Instructor to work with adults as they pursue educational goals and prepare for the GED examination.  The Adult Basic Education Instructor reports to the Director of Developmental Studies and Dean of Instruction. 

Qualifications

The instructor must serve as professional role model; provide essential guidance and instruction with a professional demeanor.  A bachelor’s degree with experience in education is desired.

Position Information

The Adult Basic Education Instructor is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits.  The Instructor reports to the Director of Developmental Studies and Dean of Instruction.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Job Description

Full-Time Adult Basic Education Instructor

The Adult Basic Education Instructor, as a member of the Instructional Services Team, will perform a wide variety of instructional activities for adults under the direction of the Director of Developmental Studies and the Dean of Instruction.

Primary Responsibilities

 

1.  Instruct and advise students attending the Adult Basic Education program based on appraisals and assessments. Coordinate with other Center instructional staff CASAS learning material for each student and instruct students based on required competencies. Instructional courses may include Math, Reading, Writing, Employability, and Technology.

2.   Develop and implement assessments for ABE/GED students leading to an individualized education plan. Assist in the development and implementation of short and long term Instructional Services utilizing new and innovative approaches to adult instruction.

3.      Verify with the Data Entry Specialist changes in data information and review with other Instructional Staff, quarterly and annual reports for the Kansas Board of Regents.

4.      Assist any prospective participants entering the Adult Education Center for educational services.

5.      Attend required training programs for the Kansas Board of Regents and Independence Community College.

6.      To perform additional duties as assigned after consultation with the Director of Developmental Studies, Adult Education Coordinator and/or the Dean of Instructional Services.

7.      Serve as professional role model; provide essential guidance and instruction pertaining to work ethics, professional demeanor, and the quest to excel.

8.       Personnel will be KAEA credentialed.

9.       Serve as ambassador of the college with students, staff and community.

Specific Qualifications

1.      Bachelor’s degree with experience in education preferred.

2.      Must have experience and/or education related to the scope of work and essential functions in job description.

3.      Must espouse a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of a comprehensive community college.
