Position Announcement

Independence Community College seeks an Athletic Director for leadership and coordination of the college athletic programs.  Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serving the needs of full/part-time students and student athletes, has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process.

Position Summary

The college seeks a leader direct the ICC Pirate athletic program.  The Director is responsible for the administration of the total athletic program, including understanding and adhering to all conference and national rules, athletic fundraising and staff supervision.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in administration, physical education or related field required.  Master’s degree preferred. Experience related to the position summary preferred with five or more years in administration and/or coaching.

Position Information

The Athletic Director is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits.  Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Job Description

Athletic Director

 

Reporting to the Dean of Student Services, the Athletic Director will be responsible for the administration of Independence Community College’s comprehensive athletic program that includes understanding and adhering to all conference and national rules, athletic fundraising, and staff supervision.

 

Primary Responsibilities

1.      Develop an Athletic Department short-term and long-term plan.

2.      Develop initiatives for external funding opportunities.

3.      Have a knowledge base of all current conference and national rules pertaining to eligibility and competition .

4.      Develop and implement budgets and fiscal control in conjunction with each head coach and the Dean of Student Services.

5.      Coordinate and oversee Booster Club activities in conjunction with the Booster Club president.

6.      Coordinate the activities of the Athletic Department with other departments on the ICC campus.

7.      Maintain and enforce an Athletic Department Handbook for acceptable and professional behavior and growth for all coaching staff members.

8.      Establish a code of discipline and behavior that is in agreement with ICC college policy so that student-athletes are informed as to their rights and responsibilities related to continued participation in athletics and as a successful student.

9.      Oversee game management.

10.  Supervise office staff and coaching staff.

11.  Serve as an ambassador for the department within the college and greater community.

12.  Participate in college committees, state professional groups and community service.

13.  Provide leadership in the College’s commitment to diversity through promotion of an environment that is inclusive and values racial, gender, social, and cultural, diversity.

14.  Understand and promote the College’s AQIP initiative, especially as it relates to Athletics and the rest of the College.

15.  Other duties as assigned.

8.      Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and community.

9.      Display high degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules of safety, procedures, and fair labor.

10.  Maintain a commitment to high professional standards, including professional growth.

11.  Provide willingness and ability to assist in the development of new or revised curricula, as it pertains to athletics.

12.  Demonstrate electronic media literacy including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and FrontPage.

13.  Ability to drive and valid driver’s license.

Specific Qualifications

1.      Must have experience and/or education related to the scope of work and essential functions in job description.

2.      Bachelor’s Degree with experience in administration or physical education.  Master’s degree preferred.

3.      Coaching experience and/or administrative experience, preferably at a comparable institution of higher education.

4.      Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, organize, and provide bias-free leadership.

5.      Leadership experience required; specific experience with student recruitment, budget management and/or staff supervision strongly preferred.

6.      Must espouse a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of a comprehensive community college.
