Independence Community College seeking a Dean of Student Services for leadership and coordination of student programming. Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serving the needs of full- and part-time students, has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process. |

Position Summary |
||
The college seeks a committed leader with demonstrated team building and team leadership skills. The successful candidate will have demonstrated successful leadership experience in admissions, records management, financial aid, student judicial affairs, athletics, student activities, residential life, international programs, career and personal counseling, and/or child care; knowledge of and leadership for documented student outcomes; and a deep commitment to improving the lives of community college students. |

Qualifications |
||
Master’s degree required; an earned Doctorate preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in an educational setting is required. The Dean of Student Services must demonstrate a collaborative work ethic and passion for the comprehensive community college mission. |

The Dean’s position is a full-time, 12-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes benefits. |

Job Description Dean of Student Services The Dean Student Services reports to the president and is responsible for services to students, which include admissions, advising, career and personal counseling, Upward Bound, financial aid, student activities, Pirate Cove Academy Daycare, the registrar, athletics and residential life. Primary Responsibilities1. Assure student success accountability through student recruitment, financial aid, registration, career and personal counseling, student records management, international programming, residential life, athletics, the Pirate Cove Academy Daycare, and the Federal TRIO Upward Bound program. 2. Lead selection, mentoring and evaluation of student services staff and administrative personnel. 3. Develop and maintain student services budgets and authorize expenditure of all funds. 4. Chair the student services Department Head Staff and lead all division strategic planning efforts. 5. Assure coordination of programs and services with instructional staff and offices. 6. Develop and maintain student handbook to assure that student conduct codes and rights are maintained within the college learning culture and serve as the college’s chief judicial officer. 7. Serve as the student services liaison with the college and greater community. 8. Represent student services as a member of the President’s Cabinet and with the Board of Trustees. 9. Participate in college committees, regional and state professional groups, and community service. 10. Consult with the president for additional duties as appropriate. General Qualifications1. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with students, staff, and community. 2. Ability to effectively manage programs, budgets, and staff. 3. Ability to use electronic systems for effective information flow. 4. Demonstrated organizational and problem solving ability. 5. Knowledge of Federal laws concerning student rights and privacy, budget and program eligibility. 6. Demonstrated success in programs that serve students from underrepresented populations, returning students, students from diverse ethnic, educational and economic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. 7. Demonstrated application of student development knowledge for program leadership. 8. Ability to work with departmental staff and other college staff members to establish and achieve annual goals. 9. Ability to provide excellent customer service. 10. Flexible work schedule dependent upon student services unit needs. 11. Ability to remain calm and effective in high stress situations. 12. High level of energy to fulfill a variety of tasks. Specific Qualifications 1. Master’s degree in education or a related field required; an earned Doctorate degree preferred. 2. A minimum of five (5) years related administrative experience in an educational setting is required. 3. A progressively responsible record of successful administrative leadership required; specific experience with AQIP accreditation, student recruitment, budget management, financial aid, residential life, athletic programs, counseling, student activities, institutional effective, student retention, judicial affairs and/or staff supervision strongly preferred. 4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, organize, and provide bias-free leadership. |
